Research at Stanford

Andrea Lunsford
At the last class we read about research organised by Andrea Lunsford at Stanford University. The aim was to find out whether newer generation of people is writing more than before. The outcome of this research was very intresting. Nowadays teenagers are writing more than ever before and the writing is not only for academic studies but also about their life. The article was fascinating. My suspicion comfirmed: I thought the same way what the research shows us: new generation has access to far more resources than our parents did so of coure the time spent online will increase.
-----By the way, here is the article itself The New Literacy. Some parts of it are less interesting to me then others. Considering Internet life as addiction I can surely say that everything depends from the person. Although the purcentage of those who prefer "real life" more then virtual word is much higher, more and more people became "addicted" to Internet. It might be at work or elsewhere. But writing has defenetly changed and mainly because of Internet.

In my opinion, such researches that were conducted at Stanford, should be done every, let´s say, 4-5 years. Then we can draw a line between nowadays generation and the future one to determine whether the global changes in "young" writing were made. So following the information on the web-page I think I will find out more interesting stuff about our society and life:)
